A shooting in a quiet residential neighborhood? That's right, York Regional Police are currently investigating a late-night incident in Vaughan, where a vehicle became the target of gunfire.
The incident occurred in the vicinity of Madeira Avenue and Genoa Road. A vehicle parked in a residential driveway was hit by bullets. Thankfully, at this point, no injuries have been reported.
Investigators have described the suspect as a person of heavy build, wearing a black hat and a dark coat. The Firearms Investigation Team is taking the lead on this case.
But here's where it gets controversial... Vaughan Mayor Steven Del Duca released a statement to CP24, strongly condemning the act: “This activity is completely unacceptable in Vaughan or in any other community for that matter.” He further emphasized the need for tougher penalties and stricter measures to keep criminals off the streets.
Police are advising residents to anticipate a significant presence in the area as the investigation continues, and are urging the public to steer clear if possible.
If you have any information that could help the investigation, the police encourage you to reach out.
This is a developing story, and more details will be released as they become available.
